Discrimination against Central Eastern European citizens is unacceptable 2012. 04. 26. The Heads of Delegation of the EPP Group's 10 Central Eastern European Member States (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia) sent an open letter today to José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, expressing their deep concern regarding the numerous discriminatory actions carried out against Central and Eastern European citizens. They call on the Commission to step up against such measures.
Further Developments in the Case of Mr Előd Tóásó 2012. 04. 25. Kinga Gál MEP called personally Ms Edit Tóásó, sister of Mr Előd Tóásó in order to inform her about the cooperation with Irish MEP, Gay Mitchell and the further steps that are planned to be taken. The MEP reassured Ms Tóásó that she will use every instrument at her disposal to keep the case on the agenda and protect the human rights of Mr Előd Tóásó. She promised furthermore to make concrete steps in order to arrange a meeting for Ms Tóásó with HR/VP Ashton.
The Commission will release its analysis of national Roma strategies within weeks 2012. 04. 24. European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding has reported to the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality on the preparation of the Commission's future programme for 2013. MEP Lívia Járóka, Vice-Chair of the committee asked the Commissioner about the financial feasibility of national Roma inclusion strategies, the sustainability of anti-poverty programmes and the implementation of the 'race directive'.

During the April plenary session of the European Parliament Mr László Tőkés MEP's report on the reform of European Higher Education was discussed. Kinga Gál MEP in her written statement developed on the question from the perspective of national minorities.
Accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights 2012. 04. 20. During its plenary session the European Parliament debated the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights. In her contribution to the debate Kinga Gál MEP stressed that the accession can be successful only in case it streghtens the already existing European institutions and the judicial systems of the Member States.
Human Rights should be at the core of all European policies 2012. 04. 18. Today the European Parliament voted in favour with a large majority of its annual report on the situation of human rights in the world. As a result of the amendments tabled by Kinga Gál MEP the report contains a separate part dealing with the rights of national minorities, furthermore other accepted amendments of hers strengthen the rights of the child in the text.
Labour Reforms in Central Europe: Creating flexible labour markets and safeguarding workers’ rights 2012. 04. 12. 'How to create jobs, improve competitiveness of the European economy, establish a more flexible labour market while keeping safeguards for workers?' were the questions in focus yesterday at an EPP Group Hearing dedicated to the recent labour reforms of three Central European countries - Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
International Roma Day: EPP Group dedicated to making further progress on the inclusion of Roma 2012. 04. 04. Commenting on the International Roma day on 8 April, the Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Joseph Daul MEP, and Lívia Járóka MEP, the only Member of the European Parliament of Roma origin, stated: "8 April is the International Roma Day, devoted to celebrating Roma history, culture and raising awareness of the situation that Romani people are facing. Though further progress shall be made, we have much to celebrate since last year. The adoption of the European Roma Strategy, and the creation of national action plans brings promise to the whole Romani community that the inclusion of Roma can become a tangible reality. The EPP Group, as before, is fighting at the forefront to make this happen."
Cooperation with Irish MEP Gay Mitchel concerning the case of Mr Előd Tóásó 2012. 04. 03. Kinga Gál MEP in her mail sent to Gay Mitchell MEP raised his attention to the case of Mr Előd Tóásó, informed him about the questions tabled to the Commission regarding the case in the DROI and the aswers given by the EEAS, furthermore she requested that the EP delegation that visits Bolivia in the upcoming months raised the question at different forums and in dialogues with Bolivian authorities during its stay.
