The peace and stability of the Middle East is the key to the security of Europe

“Never before have we had such a need for close cooperation with the states of the Middle East, as the global trade in raw materials is changing drastically as a result of the war and energy sanctions,” stated Kinga Gál, the president of the Fidesz European Parliament delegation in Strasbourg, during the debate in the European Parliament on the report on the Middle East region’s security situation and stability. According to László Trócsányi MEP of FIDESZ, our relations with the countries of the region must be shaped along the lines of mutual interests and equality, not forgetting that each of the countries in question has its own traditions, culture and values.

Kinga Gál emphasized that the peace and stability of the Middle East is the key to the security of Europe. She added: this is why the conclusion of the Abraham Accords was of key importance, and the result of the Israeli elections, which guarantees a stable government under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is also to be welcomed.

In her speech, Kinga Gál also mentioned that the countries of the Middle East, which already have a leading role in energy globally, are indispensable partners for Europe not only in solving the European energy crisis, but also in the field of renewable energy sources. “The protection of the Christian minorities living in an increasingly vulnerable situation in the region cannot be the subject of political negotiations, so we must help the persecuted Christians in the region,” added the MEP.

According to László Trócsányi, Europe cannot be indifferent to what is happening in the region. “We must shape our relations with the countries of the Middle East along the lines of mutual interests, constructive cooperation and equality. In the meantime, we cannot forget that each of the countries in question has its own traditions, culture, and values: we must respect these and proceed with due caution. The European Union cannot take on the role of a teacher disguised in an ideological cloak, as the report does at many points,” underlined the Fidesz MEP. László Trócsányi called for effective help from EU partners as soon as possible in relation to one of the countries of the region, Lebanon. “The country of cedars has suffered a lot and is now facing an extremely serious political and economic crisis. We must provide sufficient assistance and promote the country’s stability through diplomatic means. This is also crucial for the return of refugees in Lebanon to their own country,” he said.
