Conference on the 800-year-old Golden Bull

Today, we are commemorating the 800-year-old Golden Bull and Europe’s civilizational heritage at a high-level international conference in Brussels. With the involvement of politicians, academics and experts, we discuss how to imagine the future of Europe based on our national constitutional heritage.

The Golden Bull is not just a document of historical importance. The new Hungarian Constitution (the so called Basic Law) adopted in 2011 once again created a living connection between the Hungarian constitution and our constitutional traditions, the cornerstone of which is the Golden Bull. In order to be able to face the current challenges together at the level of the Union, it is necessary to create a link between the national constitutions and the fundamental Treaties of the European Union. The future of Europe can only be built on respecting its historical and constitutional heritage.
