On behalf of the association Secretary-General Günther Rautz presented the activity of the organization. The invited guests reported on all the difficulties they have to face during their work. Papers published in minority languages are facing the economic crisis in nearly every country, and this is coupled with a decreasing number of subscribers and declining advertising. In fact, every one of these daily papers struggles to survive.
The Association may be assured of the Intergroup’s support, underlined Kinga Gál MEP. She also encouraged the members of the Association to have, and express, mutual support and co-operation towards each other.
The European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages is a ten year old NGO. It acts to unite 30 daily papers published in 13 minority languages, in 14 countries. The Szabadság newspaper from Cluj (Kolozsvár in Hungarian) is the only Romanian member of the Association.
