Minority Intergroup

Statement on the use of the mother tongue during the epidemic

2020. 04. 09.

The Co-Chairs of the Minority Intergroup, Kinga Gál, Loránt Vincze and François Alfonsi, confirmed in an online statement that persons belonging to national or regional minorities should be treated equally during the coronavirus crisis!

The Minority Intergroup emphasizes the Importance of communication in minority or regional languages about the health care, emergency and administrative measures introduced by the Member States in the fight against the coronavirus.

Access to healthcare and social services should be available in mother tongue, where national provisions are in place.

Online education, if in place, has to be ensured for children with minority background as well and in minority languages in which they receive their education.

European diversity should be upheld also in such difficult times that we are witnessing today.
