Rights Should Not Be Granted Without Registration

Fidesz MEP Kinga Gál, elected last week to become vice president of the European People’s Party, addressed the debate saying,“The issue of migration has been on the agenda of the plenaries for months. Unfortunately, a long time had to pass for every European institution to finally reach the point of identifying the real questions and attempting to find answers for them instead of leading people on and waffling.”
 
According to Gál, migration pressure has only intensified, confusion has grown and there are more and more people who cannot understand the lack of firm measures and honest, responsible words and actions. In the current, intensifying situation, innovative solutions are needed, which must be accompanied by solid and responsible actions. The politics of open borders and unlimited entry must come to an end, and the time for straight talk has come.
 
It is obvious from the two Council meetings, which took place one after the other, that if the most burning tasks remain unidentified, as well as the duties that must be immediately carried out in response, the situation is going to become unmanageable. Today’s proof for this point is the Balkans migration route, and by tomorrow many more member states may face similar crises at their borders.
 
“It’s high time to recognize the actions being called for since August. For example, the head of the Hungarian government was threatened with exclusion for daring to say that protection of the external borders must have priority and that there must be a differentiation between those entitled to refugee status and those who are economic migrants, and that the latter must be sent back. Those who have crossed the border must be registered, even by taking fingerprints. They cannot be transported from one border to the other, and the migrant cannot choose where he would like to undergo the process. We cannot solve the problem within Europe, and cannot tell who and how many people are allowed in, until we secure our borders. This is also a basic provision for protecting the Schengen system, one of the greatest achievements of the European Union. Meanwhile, refugee camps should be aided locally, and access to work and education must be provided, since the real refugees are living in these camps and waiting to return to their homes,” said the EPP representative.
 
Gál welcomed the Emergency Resolution of the Madrid Congress of the European People’s Party, which included the important points and activities previously mentioned. “People expect honest, responsible and definite words and actions from today’s politics. The Hungarian government, abiding by our EU responsibilities, is protecting the achievements of Schengen and striving to show a clear, straightforward and firm way for a puzzled Europe,” said Gál.
