Relations between the EU and the League of Arab States and cooperation in countering terrorism

In order to achieve a joint and coherent response to terrorism that is threatening European way of life and values, strengthening cooperation should be a key element in EU’s counter terrorism strategy.
 
I therefore welcome the recent Memorandum of Understanding that was signed with the League of Arab States on cooperation in countering terrorism.
 
This sends a very positive message, because it shows that in a fight against terrorists driven by the ideology of Islamist extremism, our strong allies are the moderate Muslims.
 
If on one side this cooperation will help us in our efforts to fight against radicalisation, trace terrorist financing and identify foreign fighters, on the other side it will hopefully stop the rise of any islamophobic sentiment  in the EU.
