"The document ignores the fact that the Hungarian government has acted in line with the European Commission's proposals and that the Hungarian media law is fully in line with all EU laws, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights", Busuttil said.
Additionally, Commissioner for Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes has confirmed that the amended legislation is in line with European laws, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights, he added.
The resolution condemning the Hungarian media law adopted on Thursday by the left-wing groups is "unfounded, unreasonable and is intended only to score political points," Busuttil said.
He said voting for an "unreasonable, unrealistic and pointless Resolution" constituted irresponsible behaviour which ruins not only the judgement of the EP's work but also trust in the European Institutions.
The European Parliament on Thursday approved a resolution that raises objections to Hungary's media law. Earlier this week the Hungarian parliament passed amendments to the media laws in line with an agreement with the European Commission. European Commissioner for Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes welcomed the move.
