Today’s plenary session of the European Parliament debated the conclusions of the March European Council. MEP Kinga Gál, President of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, stressed that the consequences of the war in Ukraine show that Europe needs a strategic change of direction. She pointed out that the ideological approach of Brussels is undermining Europe’s competitiveness and threatening economic growth.
In her speech, MEP Kinga Gál said that the Council meeting focused on increasing arms and ammunition transfers, when what is needed is a ceasefire and peace. The Chair of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament said that the serious consequences of the war in Ukraine, inflation, energy prices and the increasing pressure from illegal migration are clear signs that the European Union needs a strategic shift. “We need a demographic turnaround instead of illegal immigration”, she added.
MEP Kinga Gál stressed that the European Commission should provide financial support to Member States for border protection, even by financing the construction of border fences. According to the MEP, EU declarations and plans, although ambitious, lack realistic impact assessments. “This ideological approach is undermining Europe’s competitiveness and threatening economic growth”, the MEP concluded.
