EP Delegation achieves its goals: €300m for the milk crisis. László Surján MEP

2009. 11. 19.

Following the European Parliament’s proposition, a sum of €300m will be allocated to the European milk industry in order to solve the milk crisis. Mr Surján, a Hungarian MEP, said: “This is the first time that the Council has accepted a proposition from the European Parliament regarding agricultural affairs. €300m is a significant amount of money, therefore it will largely contribute to solving the crisis. However, the rules of appropriation still need to be determined by the Member States’ governments.”

The Budgetary Proposal also includes the completion of the financing of the European Economic Recovery Plan. €420m is being dedicated to rural development, and more than €1 billion is going to different energy-related projects.

Following harsh negotiations, the European Parliament managed to achieve that the level of payments will be almost €123 billion, which is higher than the original suggestion of €120.5 billion.

Last but not least, Surján emphasised that the 2010 Budget ensures the establishment of the financial conditions of a new microfinancing tool, which would offer effective help to those most in need through microcredit.
