Press Release of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation - By calling on the European Commission to assess the recently-adopted new Hungarian Constitution by the S&D Group, in a press release issued today, is a serious attack against Hungarian sovereignty. Constitutionalism is part of national sovereignty and even Mr Schulz and the European Socialists should not question the right of the Hungarian Parliament, whose members were elected by Hungarian citizens in a democratic way, to adopt a new constitution. Mr Schulz should have rather called his Hungarian Socialist fellows to represent their voters and participate in the debate in the Hungarian Parliament on the new Constitution, which they refused to do.

The Intergroup, which met on April 7th, featured presentations from Ms Agnieszka Szklanna from the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) who described the work of PACE and their report on the ECRML. On the initiative of MEPs Izaskun Bilbao Barandica and Francois Alfonsi the Intergroup also discussed "The Limits to Political Participation" with presentations by Professor Juan Jose Alvarez Rubio and Dr Didier Rouget on the situation in the Basque Country, the political parties law, and the banning of the Basque Left party Sortu.

A day-long public Hearing on 'What do young Europeans know about totalitarianism?' was organised by four Central European EPP Group MEPs today.
