Respect for minority rights should be a condition for Serbia’s EU accession 2013. 09. 26. The Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament, and the delegation responsible for South-East Europe held a joint session on Thursday morning discussing minority issues in Serbia, most notably the situation of the Hungarian minority living in Vojvodina. On the recommendation of Kinga Gál MEP from Fidesz and László Tőkés MEP from Transylvania the subcommittee heard a statement by Professor Tibor Várady, who discussed in detail the situation of the Hungarian community in Vojvodina.
Autonomy is not separatism 2013. 09. 17. ’The autonomy enjoyed by the province of Vojvodina, Serbia is not about encouraging separatism, but about preventing it’ – proclaimed the conference titled ’Challenges of the democratic strengthening of autonomy’, held at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event, co-organised by the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the office of Hunineu (Office for the European Representation of Hungarian National Minorities), was hosted by László Surján, Vice Chair of the European Parliament.
Implementation of national Roma strategies in progress – Further efforts needed 2013. 09. 05. The European Commission presented today its two latest documents on the European Roma inclusion process in the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. EPP Group MEP Lívia Járóka welcomed both the communication on 'Steps forward in implementing national Roma integration strategies' and the proposal for a Council recommendation on effective Roma integration measures in the Member States as important steps, but emphasized that a number of fundamental weaknesses still needed to be remedied for the success.

Hungarian EPP Group MEP Lívia Járóka presented her working document on the Gender Aspects of the European Framework of National Roma Inclusion Strategies in the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. The document outlines the shortcomings of the framework’s implementation and analyses the specific situation of Roma women.

The issue of the Central European floods is on the agenda of the European Parliament 2013. 06. 13. On behalf of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation (Fidesz) to the European Parliament and on the initiative of Ms Ildikó Gáll-Pelcz, the Conference of Presidents decided today to put the issue of the Central European floods on its agenda. The plenary session in July is expected to vote a resolution on the matter. The proposal of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation (Fidesz) calls on the European Commission to mobilise the financial resources needed in order to help the affected member states - including Hungary - and to mitigate the effects of the floods.
EU aid for the most deprived: more funds to be allocated to help the most vulnerable 2013. 06. 12. “It is a great success that with the support of the EPP Group, the plenary adopted the Report on a fund for European aid for the most deprived. This means that following successful trilogue negotiations with the Council, the fund can be established in the near future to help the most deprived EU citizens. The EPP Group and the majority of the EP want to increase the funding for the programme by €1 billion so we therefore still need to find additional financial resources”, said Csaba Őry MEP, EPP Group Coordinator in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and Shadow Rapporteur of the dossier.
