The implications for the European Neighbourhood Policy of the recent decision by the Ukrainian Government not to sign the Free Trade and Political Association Agreements with the EU were at the centre of a two-day conference in Tallinn (Estonia) organised by the EPP Group think-tank, the European Ideas Network, in a joint venture with the International Republican Institute and the Estonian Pro Patria Institute.

The recent case brought against László Tőkés, Hungarian MEP from Romania and the honorary president of the Hungarian EPP delegation, is none other than a politically motivated showcase trial, with the purpose of discrediting László Tőkés and deter those who stand up for the rights of Hungarians living in Romania. The decisions taken yesterday represent a brutal assault of the right to freedom of speech and expression. The delegation of Fidesz conveys to Mr Tőkés its full support in his struggle against this disparaging smear campaign.
A fair trial for Előd Tóásó! 2013. 11. 21. Today, on the initiative of Kinga Gál MEP, the European Parliament debated and adopted a resolution concerning the case of Előd Tóásó, a Hungarian citizen detained in Bolivia. With its resolution the EP sent a strong and unequivocal signal to the Bolivian authorities: they shall respect the most fundamental human rights, they shall end the detention of the EU citizens, they shall conduct an impartial independent inquiry to the case and ensure a fair trial process.
EP adopted the legislative package on cohesion policy 2013. 11. 20. The European Parliament adopted today the new legislative package concerning cohesion policy, regional development and social funds. The package contains numerous improvements on the planning and implementation of cohesion and social programs. Due to the adopted changes, the extent of funds to be spent on fight against poverty has been increased, the regulations on the accessibility of people with disability have been extended and many rules concerning regional payments have been simplified. Numerous amendments tabled by Hungarian EPP Group MEPs Csaba Őry, Ádám Kósa and Tamás Deutsch (Fidesz) have been incorporated into the adopted legislative package.
Hungarian MEPs discuss minority issues with local leaders in Serbia 2013. 11. 15. Two Hungarian members of the European Parliament, Kinga Gal and Gyorgy Schopflin, held talks with local ethnic Hungarian leaders in Subotica (Szabadka), Serbia, on Thursday. The two MEPs, delegated by Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, were briefed on issues concerning the Hungarian minority, which may be raised in the course of preparations for Serbia’s EU accession.
Azerbaijan: A model of peaceful co-existence of Islam and minority religions 2013. 11. 13. Yesterday was dedicated to Azerbaijan in the European Parliament as two programmes have been organised in connection with the country. In the afternoon, Vice-President László Surján hosted a conference whereby the Human Rights Without Frontiers international organisation launched its report on Non-Muslim Minorities in Azerbaijan. While in the evening, Latvian EPP Group MEP Inese Vaidere opened an exhibition on religious tolerance in Azerbaijan. Both events were attended by Elshad Iskandarov, Minister of Religious Affairs in Azerbaijan. The main message of these events was that this country which is massively populated by Muslims shows a good model of secularism and the culture of tolerance gives us a role model on how to accommodate minority denominations in a majority Islamic country.
