All victims of the Soviet dictatorship must be rehabilitated!

In the European Parliament, MEPs debated the declaration of the Holodomor as genocide, and a motion for a resolution was also adopted on the subject. Andrea Bocskor, Member of the Fidesz EP group, emphasized: “We Hungarians also suffered the cruelties of the Stalinist dictatorship, so we feel the horrors of the tragic event. In the fall of 1944, Soviet troops invaded Transcarpathia and recruited about thirty thousand Hungarian men between the ages of 18 and 50 for three days of restoration work, known as “Málenkij robot” in the vernacular, but instead of small jobs, they were interned in forced labor camps, which is a clear form of ethnic cleansing.

The MEP added: “The “Málenkij robot” and the victims of the Holodomor are also victims of the Stalinist dictatorial regime. It is important that we condemn these actions at the European level and do not allow similar ones to be repeated. As a good neighbor, Hungary has always stood by Ukraine, it was one of the first to recognize the Holodomor as genocide, and here in the European Parliament we also support this initiative.”

Kinga Gál MEP, the president of the Fidesz European parliamentary group, reminded us that for years European institutions were not willing to deal with the horrors of communism in accordance with their true weight. “Starving a people to death must not be allowed to be forgotten, together with the dragged Hungarians to the Gulag and sent them to labor camps to die. To this day, justice has not been served to the victims of communism and the Bolshevik dictatorships, to the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children who were dragged and sentenced to death, and to the multitude of torn families. History cannot be corrected or changed. But it is our duty to remember the victims with grace, to preserve the worthy memory of those who were taken away. This will help us to leave a legacy of life and justice to the next generations,” the MEP emphasized in connection with the debate.
