The Intergroup featured substantial presentations from large delegations representing Slovenes from northeastern Italy, on the initiative of Mr Peterle MEP (EPP), and the Danish national minority from northern Germany.

The Intergroup, which met on April 7th, featured presentations from Ms Agnieszka Szklanna from the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) who described the work of PACE and their report on the ECRML. On the initiative of MEPs Izaskun Bilbao Barandica and Francois Alfonsi the Intergroup also discussed "The Limits to Political Participation" with presentations by Professor Juan Jose Alvarez Rubio and Dr Didier Rouget on the situation in the Basque Country, the political parties law, and the banning of the Basque Left party Sortu.

The Intergroup discussed the benefits and challenges of regionalism yesterday with members hearing from Mr Karl-Heinz Lambertz, Minister President for the German-speaking Community of Belgium.

The Intergroup met on Thursday 17th March to hear a presentation from the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity (NPLD). The group also welcomed the Alsacian deputy in France’s National Assembly, Armand Jung, who is leading on one of the regional language bills recently tabled in the Assembly.
