    Serbia: getting closer to Europe - the European Parliament ratifies the SAA

    The European Parliament has voted a resolution on Serbia's European integration process and ratified the SAA with the country. Kinga Gál MEP emphasised that Parliament's resolution has a well-balanced approach to minority rights, including those of the Hungarians in Voivodina. According to György Schöpflin MEP, Serbia has finally made up its mind that it genuinely wants a European future.

    External Action Service given go-ahead

    The European Parliament adopted today the first report on the establishment of the European External Action Service based on inter-institutional agreement. The debate between the Parliament, the Committee, the Council and Ms Catherine Ashton, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs on the formation of the new diplomatic corps of the European Union has been an issue since the Treaty of Lisbon came into force. To get the European External Action Service up and running this year is in Hungary`s interests in the opinion of MEPs Mrs Kinga Gál and Mr György Schöpflin (Fidesz).

    Visa-free travel for Serbia - a new chance for the kin-state and the Hungarian minority in Serbia

    The European Parliament is voting today on the issue of visa-liberalization for three states of the Western Balkans. After the Parliament's resolution, the decision of the Council of the end of November will grant free-visa travel to Serbia, Montenegro and to The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Kinga Gál, Member of the European Parliament of Fidesz-delegation emphasized in the plenary session that the granting of free-visa travel is not only a technical question, but evidently a political issue as well. Visa-liberalization is based on mutual confidence and mutual engagements.
