Tom Lantos Institute set up in Budapest

2011. 05. 01.

The Tom Lantos Institute (TLI) has officially been set up by its leaders holding their first meeting in Budapest on Friday, the president of the Washington-based Hungarian American Coalition told MTI on Saturday.

The opening ceremony of the institute, named after Hungarian-born US Congressman Tom Lantos, is scheduled to be held on June 28, said Maximilian Teleki, who is also member of the TLI board's executive committee.

The two co-presidents of the institute will be historian and lawyer Katrina Lantos-Swett, Tom Lantos' daughter, and Kinga Gál MEP (European People's Party), he said.

"It is a very positive development that the Tom Lantos Institute has been set up under the agreement of the Hungarian government and the opposition. Its mission will be to promote tolerance and support minority issues in central and eastern Europe and in the world," Teleki told MTI.
